RSOM - Raster Scan Optoacoutic Mesoscopy

Overview
RSOM – Raster Scan Optoacoutic Mesoscopy is a technology utilizing optoacoustics for imaging vascular microenvironment at an extremely high resolution of 10um. Optoacoutics excels at imaging hemoglobin as it is the main natural 532nm light absorber in living tissue. By exciting subcutaneous tissue with a 532nm laser, and detecting the ultrasound signal emitted, by a raster moving ultrasound detector, an image of small and large blood vessels is reconstructed and analyzed.
The RSOM system is often used in both clinical and pre-clinical studies mainly imaging tumor microenvironment and skin pathologies, such as psoriasis. In pre-clinical studies, the instrument was used to quantify the breakdown of the tumor microenvironment post-treatment and quantify angiogenesis in untreated mice.
The RSOM is the only technology that can image entire vascular complexes at such high resolution, enabling tracking of very subtle changes.
