Industrial CT has a reputation as a laboratory technique: valuable, thorough, and slow enough that you use it on the parts that have already gone wrong. That reputation is largely deserved, and it is precisely what Lumafield set out to change.

Inspection at production rate

The distinguishing capability is a conveyor-integrated configuration that scans parts coming off a manufacturing line — hundreds of them — rather than a handful pulled for destructive testing. That single change moves CT from documenting scrap to preventing it, because results arrive while the process can still be corrected.

It is the difference between knowing your porosity rate last month and knowing it now.

Large parts

The second capability is size. Lumafield takes parts up to 1000 mm long and 600 mm in diameter — the longest of any system we carry. Above roughly 720 mm it becomes the answer almost by default, since the alternatives in that class are cabinet systems that simply will not accept the part.

Analysis where the engineers are

Scans are processed and shared through a browser. That sounds like a convenience feature and is actually an organisational one: the people who need to see inside a part are usually not the people operating the scanner. Cloud analysis means a design engineer looks at the scan without booking time on the instrument or learning to drive it.

What it is used for

  • Inline production inspection — internal quality checked at production rate instead of on occasional samples
  • Failure and root-cause investigation — porosity, voids and assembly defects visible without sectioning, so the part survives the analysis
  • Design verification and first-article inspection — internal features and wall thicknesses measured against CAD before tooling is committed
  • Electronics and battery inspection — solder joints, internal connections and cell structure, non-destructively

When another system fits better

Lumafield is built around accessibility and throughput.
